FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Technologies' Flagship Product Gets Nod from Largest Independent
Refiner in U.S.
- February 10, 2004 - SpillGuard Technologies, Inc.
(SGT, Inc.) (http://www.sgtinc.com),
the leading provider of innovative end-to-end spill prevention solutions
for the fuel movement and petrochemical industry, announced today
that its GuardDogT independent secondary shutoff control system
has successfully completed 10 months in operation at Valero's Benicia
facility. Valero has installed three GuardDog units in this downstream
marketing terminal to monitor and protect their operation from inadvertent
spills. Valero's decision to use the GuardDog platform was based
on SpillGuard's ability to quickly integrate into Valero's existing
systems and enable Valero to prevent spills resulting from human
error and mechanical failure during loading of fuel into tanker
trucks. When the GuardDog's patent pending predictive intelligence
predicts a probable spill within 750 milliseconds of a high limit
alarm , it initiates pump shutdown and secondary control valve closure,
preventing a spill.
has played a vital leadership role in adopting The new American
Petroleum Institute's (API) Recommended Practice (RP) 1004 calling
for an independent secondary shutoff control system for bottom loading
of tanker trucks. In doing so, Valero has set an example for others
to follow in the adoption of new standards that serve to improve
safety and protect the environment in and around their facilities,"
said Peter A. Mantas, president and CEO of SpillGuard Technologies.
"We are proud to be working with such a forward thinking organization,
and are also very pleased to have Valero Energy, the largest independent
refiner in the United States, validate our spill prevention technology
with their early adoption of our GuardDog product. We are confident
that the GuardDog will not only continue to perform as advertised,
but also exceed all expectations. We look forward to contributing
to Valero's ongoing commitment to improving safety and protecting
About The GuardDog™
The GuardDog is the first independent secondary shutoff
control system. It is quickly becoming the industry's defacto standard
for spill prevention. Developed from the ground up to protect lives,
the environment, and security. The GuardDog's patent pending design
continuously monitors from 1 to 8 loading or transfer streams per
unit. Built with the future in mind, its innovative design
ensures American Petroleum Institute's (API) RP1004 compliance,
reduces installation costs, streamlines operations, reduces or eliminates
the risks of spills, detects leaks and even detects attempted product
conditions The GuardDog is silent until it detects a catastrophic
valve failure. Springing to action, the GuardDog automatically
shuts down pumps; closes storage tank base valves and locks out
the loading operation while alerting management personnel of the
problem and providing an opportunity for investigation. The GuardDog
empowers management with complete control -- not allowing loading
to continue or resume until management determines it is safe to
load again by initiating a keyed system reset switch.
flexible, the GuardDog is easily integrated into the Terminal Management
System at tank truck, rail car, commercial and military aviation
refueling and marine ship and barge loading operation facilities.
A Typical configuration requires only one "GuardDog" unit per load
lane. The unit works in concert with SGT Inc's Pump & Valve
Controller and other existing safety components and emergency shutdown
circuits to provide a fail-safe mechanism for stopping flow when
a valve failure is detected. Call 1-925-363-1585 for more
